One of my favorite places to visit spring flowers is in the gardens of the Trustees property Long Hill in Beverly, MA.

The garden hosts colorful tiny early flowers and changes to larger blooms as the season progresses.

On my first visit this season (on March 15, 2025) I found Tommy crocus, snowdrops, winter aconite, and scilla.

When I returned two weeks later (on March 28, 2025) the garden continued to host tiny flowers.

There were hellebores in different colors.

Yesterday I returned to Long Hill to see if any new flowers had appeared. It feels like our spring growing season is moving slowly but I think that's just me being impatient.

White squill was in bloom, white petals lined with blue.

A single dwarf iris appeared with exquisitely decorated petals.

There was forsythia in both pink and yellow. (I never knew there was pink forsythia but an onsite lookup and a hidden sign gave us the name.

I love all these flowers and your photos capture them so nicely. I think I would very much like to visit this place if I'm ever in that area. I've never seen a white squill (or even heard of it before) so I found that flower very interesting.

Nicely done! I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks Sherry!

Long Hill is a wonderful spring garden. I usually start checking there in March for early spring flowers. Still to come are their tree peonies!

Do they also have Itohs, which I have read are a cross between tree peonies and some other peonies? They are not close to up yet in New England, but they are spectacular. Here's one from a few years ago:

I'm not aware of any - but I will make sure to look at the labels on the tree peonies when they bloom this year. That's still a ways off - I just checked the dates on last year's photos of the tree peonies and they are from late May.

Here's a tree peony at Long Hill from last spring.
