Looking for recommendations on a device that can be used to calibrate an LCD computer screen as well as an OLED monitor. I recently replaced my laptop, and just yesterday my 15yr old Panasonic plasma. I'd like to calibrate both screens but I'm not quite clear on the exact process, or the hardware options. I previously had my screens calibrated by a pro, and while I'm still doing some paid photography work, it's much less "color-critical" so I'd like to go the DIY route if possible.

In my relatively brief research, I keep arriving back to the ColorChecker Display Pro (https://calibrite.com/us/product/colorchecker-display-pro-with-ccc-mini/). Thoughts on why this particular device might, or might not be, the best option? Would love to hear a bit about the process and if there are any caveats I should be aware of.

I have the x-rite I1 DisplayPro (now discontinued). The site recommends to go to the calibrite, com and the link you posted leads to a calibrite i1 Display Pro which looks the same. Calibrite says that it replaces the x-rite i1 Display Pro.

I had it for a few years, have calibrated 3-4 monitors, I have a day and a night profile for my 4k monitor, I ended up prefering the night calibration 24/7.

I had a problem a couple of years ago, when I got a new computer and graphics card, I tried to install the software I got from the installation CD, the virus checker found a virus in the CD files, I called support in Calibrite (it seems that x-rite sold them the business of calibrating soft/hardware) and they told me to take a hike... Thankfully, I use Linux, so I managed to calibrate the monitor using Linux/GNOME native software...

It works...

Calibrate is probably the top of the list without getting ultra expensive. Datacolors spyder isn't bad but I think the xrite/calibrate has a better solution overall.

FWIW I made my living in color and measuring color for over 30 years so I'm pretty familiar with the options.

I bought an i1 Display pro many years ago. A few years ago I installed the Calibrate software and it worked perfectly. I'm a little biased towards X-Rite. I worked in print media for 35 years and that was all we used. A world leader in calibration. Their support department was always fantastic.

Appreciate the feedback.

I'm still a bit confused on the hardware and software, which is further complicated because I was hoping to purchase a used i1 Display Pro device (does not come with any CD/software). It seems the software needed would have to be downloaded, but when I goto Calibrite and reference the i1 Display Pro, it says an upgrade for a one-time fee is required. Are they meaning an upgraded device via some kind of firmware download, or an upgrade to the software that will be used during the calibration? Sorry, maybe it's that I'm operating on 3hrs of sleep, but this has my head spinning lol

This is the Upgrade page I'm referring to: https://calibrite.com/us/x-rite-upgrades/
