DSC #862: Weather. Since my area seems to be having a run of thunderstorms lately, this seems appropriate. It doesn't have to be a spring storm, so any weather-related photos are good to go. I'd really love to see an epic thunderstorm shot, but rainbows, or rain, blizzard or even the storm's aftermath would also do.

This challenge begins when posted and ends at midnight GMT on Monday June 2, 2025. The winner will be announced shortly thereafter.

The Challenge Rules:

1. Camera: Any DIGITAL CAMERA is allowed.
2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size: Maximum image size is 1600px on the long end. Minimum size is 800px.
4. Post Processing: Do whatever you like, and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting: ONE PHOTO per photographer per challenge. List camera model & lens used. Post brief EXIF data: ISO, shutter speed and aperture.
6. Commenting: No commenting and Likes during challenge. After the challenge is closed discussion is encouraged.
7. Keep it clean, and both family and work safe.
8. Have lots of FUN.
9. This text is available in a sticky. Copy the text and paste it in the new thread.

I had hoped for more fabulous weather entries, but I did get 4 awesome images. So hard to choose...

Dilopix, I love the black and white which sets a moody scene to greet the approaching storm.
GrandmaR, you captured a pretty good downpour. I love the drops coming down in the foreground and how the rain fades out the background. I love that you captured weather in progress, too.
RDWP, you are so right that is simply too much weather! I'm thankful I've never had to deal with that much snow! A couple of inches shuts everything down here, so that much snow is crazy.
OldCrow, you also have a lot of snow there, but your scene looks a little more peaceful (maybe because no cars are barely poking up out of the snow!

Even though it's only 4 images, it's still a hard choice for me. I like them all for different reasons. Soooo....here goes...

Winner: RDWP
Runner up: Grandma R

Rob, you're up. Congrats!

I was influenced on what I entered by what you wrote when you set the challenge. Since you were going to be picking the winner, I thought you might be hoping for a nice shot of lightening, but I didn't have one of those, so I entered what I thought was the next best thing. If it had been a group vote, I would have entered a different shot.

Lightning would have been cool, for sure. I wasn't limited to that though. I know a lot of the country has had rough weather lately, and Texas has gotten their share. In fact, the day I decided on the topic, we had just had a storm come through. In other local groups, people posted pics of tornados, hail, downed trees, and approaching storms with supercells. That gave me the idea for this topic and I guess I was thinking this group would jump on posting something similar. I don't have any awesome weather pics myself, but I do have some hail photos. Fortunately, I don't live anywhere that had direct impact from some of the worst storms, but we did catch the edge of a hail core one day. Still, I anticipated some blizzard photos, some heavy rain photos, and stuff like that. I'm really surprised that no one posted a hail image. Here's my husband holding a few from our yard.

Thanks Sherry! A few shots this week but worthy. And congrats to GG'ma!

This was our last "Snowmageddon" in January 2020. We can get quite a bit here but usually nothing that heavy. Being next to the ocean, it usually warms up enough to melt sooner than you'd think.

I was in Houston in December a few years back when it snowed a few inches and, yup, it pretty much shut 'er down. As well as IAH!

New topic posted soon.

One of my children lives in the Houston area, and that area gets shut down regularly - if not snow, it's rain or floods. I went to school in Ohio and we got lake effect snow from Lake Eire. We had snow piled in the parking logs until June.
