Thank you all for participating. The entries ran the gamut from straightforward to organic which pleased me to no end!

ShipleyNW:
I'm enthralled by the juxtaposition of the quaint, colorful buildings in the foreground in contrast to the drab, hulking monoliths behind them. Impressive Ken!

great grandma Rosalie:
Your image begs the question...was the choice of building blocks deliberate or just borne out of necessity? This is certainly a very eclectic style choice ;)

RDWP: At first the shack on top seemed ho-hum to me and then I looked up the history of Thufa (þúfa)... quite interesting, especially the hillock and how it came to be. The quaint shed is not only artistic but serves a practical purpose as well, consider me impressed, Rob!

OldCrow: I like that your image is monochrome (my favorite medium). The different stages of wear and tear and general decay stand out in its textures. Nice!

This took me a while to assess and chose a winner. In the end Rob's Thufa won my heart by its sheer simplicity and organic form and function. Ken, Rosalie and Don all will share the HM
Get to it Rob!

Thank you for a great challenge and giving me an HM. I wasn't around when the church was built, but I think it was done on purpose by a local craftsman who did the blocks on site using various molds.

I had to figure out what there was around where I lived that would be definitively local - I had lots of architectural shots from all over the world but not so many local ones. And the ones I had were mostly houses and churches taken before I had a digital camera.
