Kudos to the team who took this on! Your efforts are appreciated! Thank you!

What's the current thinking on the Classifieds For Sale and Wanted sections?

The current notice:
In order to have access to the market place, member must be registered for 30 days and have 60 posts. When this criteria is met, please allow a few hours for the permission to take affect. Thank you.

I've been a forum member for a day! Responded quickly to the link posted on POTN. I'm also fairly low-volume in posting and replying to posts - it's taken me 10 years on POTN to get to 499 posts. I'm sure many, like me, will be quite a while before we have Classifieds access.

OK, for me, gear hound that I am, this seems somewhat overly rigorous. Just my perception... are there advantages/disadvantages to keeping classifieds access this restrictive? Is there a benefit to only allowing high-volume posters classifieds access in the first year?

I think the idea is really just to prevent "unknown" folks signing up & causing problems by attempting fraudulent transactions.

Or if you are a blabbermouth like me, a higher number is achievable by the weekend. lol

I guess that’s one of my points from my original post - I’m not really that chatty in online forums. I’m usually only posting in response to questions when I think I have a good answer, and occasionally posting questions of my own. I’m unlikely to change who I am.
Like on POTN the marketplace is not a Craigslist but a service to the community. Others can trade here too but we need to see some credentials first.
Of course this is important. Scammers abound. I don’t think of myself as “others can trade here too”, I kind of thought I wasn’t an “other”, but just another transplant from the POTN community. This is in fact quite disturbing to think of that I may be perceived and treated as other, as them, not us, because I am a low-volume poster. Based on 500 posts in POTN in 10 years I probably won’t have Classifieds access in 2024. I think I sold once and bought twice in 10 years on POTN.

Perhaps I’m indeed not like the members who are posting daily. Oops. If I recall there is no minimum posts requirement for access to classifieds in my other online communities including POTN, FM and others, just a minimum time of membership to post something for sale.

Maybe I’m not remembering correctly, but it seems FoP founders have chosen to be more restrictive than other forums. Of course this thing is new, and kudos to the do-ers who got it done, I am mightily impressed and overall grateful. There are bound to be some bumps in the road on something this broad and new which serves a growing and diverse group of members.

I just learned that the admin in charge of the Marketplace has set post count for access to 5 for now. That should be easy to do, right?
Yes, I think I’m getting close to 5 just in this thread :)

On behalf of newbies, lurkers, and low-volume posters I’m glad the bar is a little lower!
