Cardinals - The unofficial Cardinal thread

For some reason, I find it very hard to get good feather detail on red birds. You can see it in this thread too - great photos but it seems like other birds that aren't red display much crisper feather detail. I don't have too many opportunities shooting cardinals since I am on the West Coast but I have similar problems with vermilion flycatchers, for example.

Cardinals are hard to get right sometimes.
Red is a color that if the color is boosted any at all, it will destroy the details. You can try to lower the red slightly and boost the yellow some, see what that does for you.
When lowering the red you will be able to see the details come back again. Lowering it too much and you'll have a faded looking Cardinal. heheh
Most of the details in a Cardinal is in the blue and black, but I never hardly touch the black.

Try that out, on my cameras I have all of them set to default, I don't want my camera making decisions for me.
After AI takes over, all I want my new AI robot to do is to cook my breakfast!
