Canon RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM

I finally managed to get out a perform a quick test of the replacement 200-800mm lens and there is a huge difference in IQ when compared to the defective (coma) original copy that I purchased.

This was taken in our back garden and the Rainbow Lorikeet was some 8 metres away and very active in the bird bath. Even at ISO6400 the shot was a bit underexposed to get me 1/800 sec shutter speed at F9. Taken at the 800mm end, lens mounted on a monopod.

#1 is a full res 1600x1600 crop RAW SOC.
#2 is as processed in PS CC.

I am very pleased with the IQ of this lens after the initial shock of seeing the images from the defective lens that was replaced by the camera shop.

That is good news, at least you were savvy enough to spot the issue.

Glad you are all sorted, the quality looks impressive.

The 200-800 performed very nicely for the Apr 8 solar eclipse. We "only" had 65% coverage at my home in CO, but it was enough to notice a difference in the ambient light and the temp dipped several degrees. I had it mounted on a gimbal with my solar filter I used with the 2017 solar eclipse, and 2023 annular. It was the first time using the manual focus on this lens and I found it generally easy to work with. Not as buttery smooth as my 100-400II, but was better than the not smooth at all Sigma 150-600C.
