Canon RF 100mm F2.8L MACRO IS USM Official Image Thread

It is just odd, the 180L and 100L both came with the TMA-A, only the budget 100 classic did not.

You could use the TMA-A with the classic via an additional plastic adaptor; this worked but is clumsy and not very smooth.

If you are doing any traditional methods macro or stacking a tripod collar is essential. Just a very funny move by Canon, like they don't take the genre seriously any more.

A macro lens is pretty small and light. Why not just add a tripod foot to the camera?
There have been times where I mounted my T3i to a tripod foot via the bottom screw mount, and even with the relatively light 100mm f/2.8 non-IS non-L, it was quite "nose heavy". Not a huge issue, but annoying at times. I bought a third-party lens tripod mount, and it worked "pretty good".

The "Canon Refurb" RF 100mm F/2.8 macro L came yesterday - I didn't have too much time to play (that work thing keeps getting in the way), just a few minutes on a coffee break, as it were.

It's pristine, as all Canon Refurbs are - may as well be new.

The IS is _really_ handy, especially paired with the IBIS of the R7.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to play with it more on the weekend, or a lunch break during the week.

I'll post some sample shots when I get a chance. I may even start a new thread for the lens over in the Canon Lenses area, to avoid clogging up this thread which is intended for sample photos, really.

As promised / threatened, here are a couple of shots I took using the new lens when I first got it. Chinese Fringe Bush - you can see the super thin DoF at f/2.8 illustrated on the leaf in the lower right.

Another at f/2.8, because why not? Purple Fountain Grass:

I did take some shots at narrower apertures - I might post a couple of them in the Macro photos area.

I need to go find some cool bugs. It's currently raining, maybe some cool raindrops on grass / leaves when it stops?

And another couple. This lens is tons of fun. Cardboard palm berry cone, bursting with ripeness. The birds love this plant.

Note the tiny mite or whatever on the right lower center of the furry "thing". I didn't even notice it when taking the shot:

Curiously, the Wikipedia page for this plant says:

"Cardboard cycads can only be reproduced by the fleshy, brightly crimson-colored seeds produced by the female plants. The germination process is very slow and difficult to achieve in cultivation; as a result, many plants sold for horticultural use are illegally collected in the wild, leading to the species being classified as Endangered."

Well, come on over to my yard - I get seeds germinating by the hundreds every year. Ain't Endangered here...

I've been taking a few more bugs than birds lately. I think my 100-500 is getting jealous.
