Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM

I never understood why they put the SA control on this lens. It seems like something more suited for portrait work - perhaps better suited on an 85mm lens?

Anyway, mine has been locked at null and never budged.

A feature that wasn't requested that just adds to the cost IMO. Has it been employed on any other lens?

Your "no bubbles" remark reminds me of the old Don Ho song "Tiny Bubbles." You have to be pretty old (okay, really old) to remember it however. :giggle:

Well done.
Tom
I'm pretty sure that from now on, that song will be playing in my head whenever I use the SA control ring... :ROFLMAO:

My thoughts have been similar. My first results when I got the lens were very disappointing and I'm still not sure what to make of the ring. But then I keep thinking "hey, I paid for this" and "it's gotta be good for something"(yeah, I'm weird:rolleyes:) , so I started experimenting more with it this spring.

Two more from my last outing:

This one looked extremely flat and boring, then I decided to go overboard with the saturation. Now it's overcooked, but better than before (IMO):

Our Canon cameras also come with the Green [A] shooting mode, but that doesn't mean I feel obligated to use it... ;)

And, sometimes I think certain features are there because one person in R&D figured out how to use it usefully in very specific situations, the chief/boss says "make it so", so it got added to the product without actual field testing by real users.
