Another footy match played in a gale and heavy rain. Shooting sport in winter is never easy

Terrific action shot. Either it rains a lot on match days, or you like shooting in the rain! :)

Interesting stud pattern and materials compared to when I was a lad.

Cheers

Thanks Dennis. Unfortunately its been raining a lot this season on match days. This season appears to have been the worst I can remember.
With me working freelance for an agency, I have no other choice than to work through it. Whilst a few guys head for the stands, I prefer to sit low at pitchside and work away whilst tethered to the laptop. As long as the wet weather gear holds out and the laptop cover does its job, I can manage.
If the R3 does have a weakness, if rain hits the EVF, the glass has on occasions misted up for a while, which can be a pain to deal with.

One of those moments when split second timing of the R3 15fps proved invaluable. I was tracking the player in the blue shirt as he picked the ball up in his own 18 yard box and as he moved forward I could see he'd mis-controlled the ball and was overstretching to reach it. That's when I hit the shutter button and captured the sequence. The player was red-carded and whilst the opposition player was initially fit to play on, he retired injured from the game during the half-time interval.

Very nice capture. Perfect timing on the shot!

It is surprising that he was able to get up and keep playing. That looks very painful.

Yep, the guy who was injured is one of the best players in the league. He gets kicked constantly and just gets up and gets on with the game. This time, unfortunately, he clearly felt the impact of the tackle when the adrenalin eased at half time.

Working on Boxing Day at the Belfast Big Two Derby soccer match. Great atmosphere throughout the match reflecting the intense rivalry between both sets of supporters. Never easy to get set in the right position in terms of getting the goal or celebration shots for the media, but thankfully I guessed correctly on this occasion.
