Canon R100 – the little camera that no one talks about – so let’s talk about it and share some pictures too

You've written a great review with accompanying stellar images from this little camera, Hideta.
You kind of make me want to run out and buy one!! :ROFLMAO:

Thank you for this contribution to the forum.

Thanks for the nice review of this camera which wasn't on my radar prior to seeing your post. My EOS M has mostly filled this space for me but it's good to see what else is out there in case I decide to make a change which is probably long overdue.

You're very welcome and thank you for the feedback.
The R100 can definitely fill in some specific niches/uses (y)

Had the opportunity to see the 100 at our local Best Buy…..
Looks like a fun little camera.
It is a fun little camera indeed.

Tiny. Just how tiny?

In comparison to my wallet which is a "slim" billfold (the bills stick out beyond flush out the top).

Just FYI…

R100 + Kit lens (18-45mm) in stock and on sale at Canon refurb for just $329 right now.

If you don’t like it, give-a-kid-a-camera ;)

I had the SLR version of this little R100 (SL1 - D100)
It was definitely useful to have such a compact body on occasions.
I'd consider the R100, except that I fill that role with the very nice little M6 II who's ergonomics are really not too bad.

Haven't used my M5 in ages mainly due to inconsistent ability to focus that I couldn't identify whether body or lens was at fault.
Wonder if a R100 would be a good idea - they look about the same size...

So if my arithmetic is right, if your starting point is FF with no IS and you go by the old rule of thumb that shutter speed has to be 1/FL to avoid noticeable blur, and assuming your position and handling were good enough for that rule of thumb, these show between 1 and 2 stops of IS. Is that right?

Sounds about right.
Not bad for a kit lens (especially one so inexpensive & small)

Here are some 100% crops of the second scene with decreasing shutter speeds
(handheld RAW files, no profile corrections, no sharpening, no noise reduction)

A cluster of mushrooms in our landscaping
I'm sure I looked quite interesting/suspicious in our front yard, prone and face down, holding something dark in front of my face... for 15 minutes
At least no police showed up. My neighbors know me pretty well :giggle:
