Sorry to respond to such an old post, but I'm now going down the rabbit hole of figuring out which mirrorless camera I might want to buy. I've got a thread in the "Welcome" portion of the forum, but basically, I currently use a T3i, which I quite like, and also have a 5D2, which is great, but I really like the reach I get with the APS-C sensor. I have a bunch of EF and EF-S lenses.

So, my question: how well do the third-party EF-RF adapters work? Is the Canon OEM really worth it?

Got distracted, so forgot to add:

I ask this question here because I'm looking at the Canon R10 body because it appears to be a logical move from my T3i - I believe there are other former T3i owners in this thread. I'd like to be able to use my EF-S lenses, and the extra "reach" you get from the APS-C sensor is nice for birding etc. I had first considered the R7, but I've been told that perhaps the extra megapixels are not worth the added noise. (I need to find some direct comparisons of images and usage to see what works best for me, but that's perhaps another thread.) So finding out how well the 3rd-party adapters work on the R10 is interesting to me - because maybe they work better on some bodies than others, or certain brands are better. Not sure I need the control ring variant, but happy to learn more about it.

I would recommend just getting the Canon OEM version. It is $79 pretty much all the time in the Canon refurb store and occasionally drops even lower. You may save 20 bucks with a third-party but why. I have two of them, one for my R7 and the other on my R5 and it's pretty much an install-and-forget proposition. Works flawlessly.

OK, thanks, I appreciate the info. I will probably grab one at "full price" whenever I decide to plunge into the mirrorless realm (sounds like a weird sci-fi/fantasy novel), because I won't be patient enough for one to pop up in the refurb store - unless I grab both camera and adapter from there, and both are in stock.

Hey @shinksma, the Canon EOS adapter is now available in the refurb store for $80. You might want to jump on it to pick it up.

I have the R10 and the RP and both work great with the adapters. I had a T3i and loved it for size and function. The R10 is comparable in size and the features it has are great. Much better low light noise than the T3i, really fast frames per sec, eye tracking focus, etc, etc. In body stabilization for video. You would not be disappointed.
