I get the first thread in a forum section! :D
Canon R1 prototypes are reportedly "in the wild"
  • Iris tracking autofocus is improved over the R3
  • Quad pixel autofocus won't be featured in the sensor
  • Sensor resolution is not reported, but is expected to be at least double the R3 24 megapixel resolution

Bet they’ll be giving them away (💰). 😆

I have an R3 which is already beyond my capabilities. I'm primarily a landscape shooter so I have a lot of learning for action/wildlife to do.

I'll love to see it come out but I'm not sure I could make use of its capabilities even if I had it.

Same here- I haven't "outgrown" my 7D2 as yet.

I've always said I don't want the latest - but I think this might be one too far - I am expecting its introductory price to be well outside my budget (Or at least the wifes!)

The AF on the R3 and R5 is stunning and whilst it can occasionally get confused - its not often and usually nothing would get it.

But always interested to see what is available.

So, any price known yet?
I've heard figures in the 7-8k US range mostly. Some predict upwards of 10k but I kind of doubt that one. For the kind of shooting I typically do either of those is a little steep considering the performance of the R3 already. For that money I could be shooting 100mp medium format for my landscape work :)

I would love to be able to afford something like that but alas, little details like housing and food sort of get in the way. Still, as a techno-photographer, I love to see all the new stuff.
