Let's get the R6 Mark III thread started! Post and discuss away!

I will mostly be in the birding and landscape forums, but will also post in this thread as well. Here's a couple of very high ISO examples I just snapped in my front yard today. They're both at ISO 25,600 and edited in Lightroom (including LR's denoise). Just showing that they clean up pretty well for everyday usage. I also generally use Topaz Denoise on my bird photos, but did NOT use Topas for these, just LR's denoise.

What??? I just learned last night that a mkIII of the R6 already existed! Where have I been? :ROFLMAO:

I was also very surprised to see this morning that there was already a thread on it here on FOP with very little activity. Curious as to why there has been little discussion on it. The specs seem really terrific. It may be my next camera down the road. I think my roadmap will eventually become:

R5 for landscapes and macros
R6mkIII for birding, sports (which I hardly shoot), airshows
R6 for hiking (urban and rural), travel/vacation, EDC

I'd love to see more discussion and examples here on it. (y)

It is a fantastic camera. I personally like it better than my previous R5 for the modern updates and smaller file sizes. Superb camera, for sure!

How is the R6 III better for birding than the R5? Just curious.
From what I'm reading, the advantages that I'm excited about over the R5 are:

Better AF
Faster frame rate (40 fps vs 20 fps)
Larger buffer (150 raw vs 83 raw)
Pre-shooting buffer
Better high ISO performance
Longer battery life*

*Although I believe that the battery will have to be different to achieve some/all of these advantages?
@amyandmark3 - can the previous batteries still be used? What features drop off if so?

Hi Sam. For me, the noticeable improvements are:
1. Pre-capture that actually works as it should (as opposed to the crappy version on the R6II, R7 and maybe other Canon cameras)
2. Smaller file sizes are easier to work with in post-processing
3. ISO noise is better
4. I always use the Electronic Shutter. On the R5, it's totally silent with no option to hear a faint "click" to get audible feedback that you're shooting. On the R6III, I have it set to make an audible "click" (on its lowest/quietest setting) as I'm shooting, which just helps me feather the shutter a little better so I don't end up with a ton of identical frames. This is probably personal to me as I'm sure many people like the totally silent shooting, I just personally prefer a faint "click" sound as I'm shooting.

That's most of it, off the top of my head. Feel free to ask more questions if you have any :)

I believe the main things you may lose with the older batteries is that it reportedly won't shoot at the 40 fps, battery life is improved, and you lose certain video functionalities like high resolution and slow motion, but not 100% on the video stuff as I rarely use it. For extra batteries, I bought 2 of these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F3CTJY2W?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

and I don't notice any differences from using the new Canon battery. I still get 40 fps, pre-capture, and great battery life with these, same as the OEM battery.

Pre-capture will not be available, eye detection auto and frame rate are the three I hit so far. The good news is I tested the SMALLRIG LP-E6P Battery, 2520mAh USB-C Battery on both the R5 mkII and the R6 mkIII and they perform as well as the OEM for $33 on Amazon.

And to add to amyandmark3s post, #5 the AF tracking nail the subject faster and the lock is far superior to my R6 mkII

Well this is all very exciting!

and I wasn't aware of this part:

That is great news as I have often started a birding session thinking I'm shooting at H+ electronic shutter only to find out too late that I had it set to single shot from a previous macro or urban session  Not much worse than when you finally check the playback and only see 1 image instead of a sequence of fluttering action!

Also, on many occasions when I get a really great shooting angle on a bird or turtle (as in there is just one little opening through the leaves and branches) I quickly become surrounded by a swarm of photographers. After finally leaving my spot, I sometimes got the feeling that a few photogs were looking at me with a bit of disdain. I realized later that they probably thought I was just occupying space and not shooting for the past 10 to 20 minutes  Most people in my area still have/use dSLRs (the sound is very distinct) so it is obvious when they are shooting - like paparazzies.
