Canon EOS R5 Mark II Owners Unite: Discuss and Post Photos!

I enable the pre-continous shooting to enable. When you half press and hold the shutter button, pre capture is engaged and it's ready. I set the shutter button to metering only. It does not work single shot.
Not sure if this is a question or statement but I checked mine, pre-continuous enabled, one-shot and shutter button only metering and that just works.

Question:

Does it have an f-stop limit on AF? I was messing about and put my longest lens combo together...

EF 100-400 plus x2 TC II plus x1.4 TC III. The x2 isn't great and I haven't used it in anger in years - but just to see....

I took this shot of Burntisland, on the north side of the Firth of Forth, from Edinburgh on the south side, 8.5 Km away @ 1120 mm...

Burntisland27Sep24_1039.jpg

Lots of air distortion, crossing the water, but nevertheless.

The Exif picks up the x2 TC, but not the x1.4. (It also says the x2 is a III, but it's definitely a II.) So, it must be f16, right? The AF worked fine. So, I wondered what the limit is???

Not really, that was a DSLR thing.

It's like I've stepped into a different world. :p
Oh, yeah you have. You can tell you've skipped some classes;), several of the things you mentioned are inherent to mirror-less. And you started with (one of) the best currently available(and one with many, many options/settings). I also own the R5 and still struggle with al the options/changes!

Good report on R5 Mark II low light (high ISO) performance from Scott (Wild Alaska). Looks good!

Who was the person at Canon who decided to randomise the items on the pick list when compiling the My Menu screens? I would like to shake him warmly by the neck.

So I'm not the only one who has problems finding the right items!

Question:

I have not used EOS Utility for years. I don't have it installed on my current desktop or laptop. Do folk find it useful? I don't think I ever need to tether the camera to the computer for shooting. For file transfer I usually use a card reader and Windows and do a simple copy-and-paste job. Are there any advantages to having EOS Utility installed?

I assume that using Wi-Fi to do image transfer would be a lot slower than using the card reader?

I use it, simply plug in camera and it starts to download automatically in folders by day and I set it up to rename as YYYYMMDD-camera model-XXXXXXX(X=number of shots and this remembers the sequence number).
When downloaded it opens DPP which I use to select/reject. The selected I copy to their permanent folder for further development(Pure Raw and C1Pro).

Thanks for the reply. I compared methods by plugging the camera in to the desktop by USB and did a download from folder to folder. I use Adobe Bridge and PS for everything, so the rest is much the same as yours. I put them in a temporary folder that is later deleted. I go through them in Bridge, pick the keepers, transfer to a permanent folder and then do a batch renaming of the files with title, date, etc.

I thought it was about 6 and half a dozen between needing to take the card out the camera and needing to open the cover and plug a USB cable into the camera. I wondered if there was anything to be gained by using WiFi to do the transfer?

Based on my experience with the 6D, using WiFi allows you to go get a coffee or two by the time the files complete downloading. :laugh2:

I'm fairly sure I tried it with my 5D when I first got it. Gave it one go and probably could have ground the beans and milked the cow as well. So, that was quickly forgotten about. But it would have been back in the day when speeds were much slower. I wondered if things had improved - though I guess if I took the time to do some simple arithmetic - Gb/Mb/s - I could work out that they haven't.

Problem:

Grateful if anyone can tell me what I have done here...

I'm going through all the setting-up and starting to diverge my C1, C2 and C3 settings for different types of shooting. I seem to have created a conflict that needs resolved, but I don't know what I have done and so don't know how to resolve it. I have created a blinking black frame in the centre of the screen and VF. It's a square and in the centre and doesn't move. It's sort of the next size larger than the spot focus frame. It's blinking all the time - whether I have my finger on a button or not. It's independent from the AF area in use and it doesn't seem to be serving any purpose, other than to be irritating.

Any ideas how to get rid of it? Obs I can hit reset on everything, but I've put about a week into this and would prefer not to go back to square 1.

There are more ways which lead to Rome, one is not always better than the other. As I don't use Adobe I go a different way:).
WiFi I'm not even going to try.

Yeh - I'll give that a miss. I've got Bluetooth set up with my phone. Can be useful for operating the camera remotely, and I've already used it to install Firmware 1.0.1. I used to use GPS tagging on the 5DIV, which is gone, but I can do it through the phone connection. And I've added the Bluetooth remote to my kit. That is going to be useful.

I believe you've accidentally added a home point. You can check by activating your focus mode selection and press/hold the exposure compensation button until it beeps. This will disable the option.

Al I can think of is spot metering(light) but otherwise no idea. Maybe remove battery, keeps your settings intact.
