Canon EOS R5 Mark II Owners Unite: Discuss and Post Photos!

Downloaded wirelessly through the Connect app. No issues with the install. Saved all my setting also.

Question:

Having used Bluetooth to connect to my phone and remote release, is it worthwhile disabling it at the camera to save battery power, or does it make so little difference I may as well leave it on?

A couple of experimental action shots using tracking...

Found a fantastic improvement for me, going from 5DIV to R5II...

One of the things that drove me nuts about the 5D was any time I took the CF card out, I had to take the SD out as well (just there for overflow). If I left the SD in (and shut the hatch), then when I put the CF back in, next time I used the camera, it would be set to record to SD - unless I remembered to change it to CF. I just found the 'Priority' setting, so I can tell it to stay with CF if it is there. Woo-hoo! (y)(y)(y)

Sometimes it's the small things... :)

I enable the pre-continous shooting. When you half press and hold the shutter button, pre capture is engaged and it's ready. I set the shutter button to metering only. It does not work single shot. This way, you do not have to assign a button for pre-capture.

The typical advice (which I follow) is to turn on airplane mode to conserve power when you are not using BT to connect to other devices. I have not done any experiments to see if or how much it affects power consumption, however.

Sitting down today for the first time with my R5 II and tentatively going through the initial set-up procedures.

First totally new thing I have come across (compared to my last camera, 5D IV), is "Save/Load Camera Settings on Card."

Intrigued by this, but wonder about the practicalities. Can I ask those familiar with it whether they find it useful and, if so, how they navigate the need to switch cards and/or format full cards???

Thanks,
Col
I have an updated answer for you specific to the load/save settings. These days I'm mostly doing macro and birds. For each pursuit I prefer to have different settings saved to custom positions (C1,2,3) rather than digging through the menus. For example, custom positions for pre-capture on or off when birding and custom positions for electronic or physical shutter when doing macro - more custom settings than available positions. Today, I created two separate setting files on my SD card as a way to virtually increase the number of custom positions. I loaded one set for birding today, and I'll load the other for macro tomorrow. Next season I'll create another for football. I didn't have to go this route on the R5 as there weren't as many features to consider.

Thanks - that's useful. Will keep in mind as I start to climb the learning curve... it's a big one! :p

A thought crossed my mind, sitting, setting up everything...

All you right-handed people must have to type in all the settings and other stuff on the touchscreen with your wrong hand? Being a lefty, I get the rare advantage of being able to use my writing hand to do it. The rest of the time I am holding and operating the camera with my wrong hand!

They make left-handed bread knives, but not left-handed cameras. :p

Question:

I'm having trouble getting my head round this one...

Do folk use the bottom setting and, if so, why?
