I got this lens to replace my EF 500/4 II a few months ago and have been very pleased with it, of course!

Took these with a hired 600f4 over the easter of 2021.

The first one is with a 2x converter on - the second native - not sure about the second, but the first was hand held. Both on a 1Dx Mk3

I didn't buy it in the end - I found the minimum focal distance a challenge for a start. But also its a heck of a chunk of cash. I am tempted to get the 200-800 and a 2x - but finding it hard to justify as I already have the 100-400mk2

It’s the ultimate birding lens (yes I know there’s an 800). I somehow managed to snag it during a recent refurb store sale and got a killer deal - $9350 at the store, plus I used the Canon store link through my credit card website, so got another 6% statement credit, so a new-new 600/4 III for under $9000. Yeah, a lot of money but a)a killer deal and b) yolo!

It has been bedlam at the feeders in the backyard. The finches are there in numbers. Here are a couple of males house finches:

There have been a lot of pine siskins visiting lately. There have been good siskin years and there have been bad ones, dictated presumably by how abundant the pine cones are. Here is one:

The nuthatches do love the suet. Along with the flickers, they have been demolishing my suet cakes. Just placed another bulk order of suet! :)
