Butterflies & Conservatories

Final images for now I promise!

Thanks for viewing. My local conservatory will be celebrating 30 years of butterfly exhibits. Hoping the new equipment and techniques will balance out an aging body and rusty out-of-practice muscle memory.

Happy shooting, everyone (y)

Another fantastic set!
I usually try to avoid gray backgrounds for the reason you mentioned (stark and clinical) but totally agree on your thoughts here: it really brings out the colors of the butterfly and the plant it's sitting on. It's a great contrast to the orange and green in this shot.

@Mr Roboto
We popped across to Miyazaki yesterday. 😁👍
Among other snaps, here's one for your thread, Hideta. 🌟

I'll tell you, Sofia loved chasing down the butterflies, while I was falling over myself, trying to get anything like a reasonable first shot for you. 🤣🤣🤣
I love it!

Butterflies bring out the kids in us. Perhaps being surrounded by beautiful fluttery things evokes some primordial memories (as does confetti, cherry blossom petals, etc).

Hope to see more from you and that you frequent the garden in Miyazaki! (y)

Thanks, and take a look at the "Best flowers" thread. Oh, and "Post your leaves"...
We dropped into Florante, next to the hotel (Phoenix Sea Gaiya), and I was blown away. ❤️

Butterflies bring out the hunter in me. As a lifelong fisherman, it's all about the thrill of the chase, with a catch at the end of a successful hunt. Just in the last year that same primaeval hunter in me has turned his attention to butterflies. The chase with the camera in hand, and the capture of a good image at the end of a successful hunt. At that point a kind of 'twitcher' (to use a birders' term) kicks in and wants to capture every species, so they can be ticked off. So, I have been studying the task in hand over the winter. There are 35 species of butterfly found in Scotland. I ticked-off 21 last year - all the common ones found in or within easy reach of Edinburgh (marked X below). So, this year, which is just geting started, the task is to seek out the other 14 on the list. Some involve travel and some involve deep seeking-out. They are the ones in yellow highlighter...

In addition to them, there are 4 others that I have barely ticked - the green highlighter ones...
