I have a large series of images that the sequence number rolled over from 9999 to 0001 part way through the series.

I would like to append the later series of images to number 10001 onwards i.e. adding 10000 to the image number.

Is there a reasonably simple way to do this? Not overly computer literate, running Photoshop CC on Windows 10 PC.

Cheers

thinking if the exif data is all correct, you should be able to rename based on time taken, then rename to numbered. let me have a look at some tools...

probably not useful in your case, but "bulk rename utility" (windows) has the option to rename stuff in roman numerals! if I can just work out how to do sometime more simple...

This is a very simple shell script if you've got access to a Linux command line (on Apple, Linux or Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)). You could surely do it in DOS, but my DOS skills have atrophied, so I wouldn't be any help there.

If that's too much for you, there are a variety of file-rename apps you can get for Windows, many for free. I'm sure there are some that will allow you to insert a "1" somewhere in the middle of a file name. That's generally a pretty easy task.

If you are using lightroom with photoshop CC, you need to do the renaming within Lightroom. Otherwise, Lightroom will lose track of them. It's easy to rename all of the images in a folder from within LR. Just search "batch rename images lightroom" without the quotes

Faststone is free.
It obviously does have bulk rename tool (or I would not mention it).

Wiki:

FastStone Image Viewer is an image viewer and organizer software for Microsoft Windows, provided free of charge for personal and educational use. The program also includes basic image editing tools, like cropping, color adjustment and red-eye removal.

Developed by FastStone, it was first released in 2004 and new stable versions have been released regularly since. It is available as an executable installer, zip, and a portable zip version

As you seem to have an Adobe subscription you can use either BRIDGE or LIGHTROOM to batch rename the files.

Thank You for the replies!

I ended up using FastStone but in a roundabout way.

My ideal solution would have been to somehow add 10000 to the files number but that doesn't seem possible without some form of coding (well beyond my skill set)

What I ended up doing with FastStone is to re-number the entire group (I had them set up in groups of 999 images, numbered IMG_0001 to IMG_999) using a base number of 1 and increasing subsequently by 1, so that the 999 images came out numbered 1 to 999.
I renamed images 1 to 9 with the prefix IMG_1000 so that they came out as IMG_10001 through IMG_10009:
renamed images 10 through 99 with the prefix IMG_100 so that they came out as IMG_10010 through IMG_10099;
renamed images 100 through 999 with the prefix IMG_10 so that they came out as IMG_10100 through IMG_10999.

So basically 4 steps, reasonably easy...

Image numbers 1000, 2000 etc I will simply rename manually.

The next 999 images will be prefixed with IMG_110.. as required.

Bit of a convoluted way but it worked for me, now to carry on with processing the excessive number of holiday images.....

you do realise you're now required to post some of the pix.... :)
Ok but just this once....

This is coastal shipping "Dubai Style" hand unloaded from trucks, put onto nets and swung onboard by dodgy cranes..... loaded onto just as dodgy heavily overloaded "ships". Those are 55 inch LG TV's lying on their side, adjacent to the water.

I've also used FastStone's renumbering when I want to display images in a particular order (on my Android tablet).

Export the images from Lightroom. Arrange them in the order I want in FastStone. Renumber, and use wherever.

I'm very familiar with those methods of loading in the ME. 🤣Sometimes wondered how the boats were still floating as well...
