Australian wildlife (except birds)

On my walk in Toohey Forest this morning, I saw this large lizard sun bathing and all I had was my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I think this lizard is a Lace Monitor, also known as a Tree Goanna.

The full res crop was taken at x10 zoom with the iPhone camera.

I was heading out of the house into the back garden a few minutes ago.

Upon arriving at the top of the stairs, (12 steps) down to the garden, I saw this female Eastern Water Dragon laying her eggs in a hole she had dug out at the bottom of the stairs.

It looks like I might be a daddy sometime soon, in 3 months.

Females can lay up to two clutches of 10–20 eggs each season, which are buried. The sex of each hatchling is determined by the temperature of the eggs during incubation. Water dragons can live up to 28 years in the wild and up to 40 years in captivity.
