I am very happy to see this site, and even happier to see a lot of POTN moving here. It was and is a great community.
I live in Montana, and like to photograph about everything outdoors. I started to list some of my favorites, but it would be easier to list things I don't like to shoot- Nothing of which comes to mid at the moment.
My wife, who shoots with a Canon Sure Shot, and doesn't know an aperture from a whiffle tree often takes the better photos, and I think that's great.
See you at Freeze Out. And, if you don't know about Freeze out, and you like BIF photography, you should know about Freezeout. You can either Google it, or ask me, or both!

You have found the Land of milk and Honey!

Welcome.

Welcome to Focus, glad you made it. I am assuming your talking about Freezeout lake. I have heard that it's great for migratory bird photography but I have never been there.

Hi Teton, welcome to our new home!

So, Freeze out? I’m asking!

Sorry for the delay!
Freezeout is a series of small ponds located between Choteau, Montana and Fairfield, Montana. (It's about 16 miles from Choteau to Fairfield.) The ponds come right up to the edge of the highway, plus there are dirt roads behind the ponds, so access is as easy as bribing a politician. Nearby is Priest Lake, which the birds frequent also.

The big deal at Freezeout is the spring waterfowl migration, where thousands, (tens of thousands, really) snow geese arrive. They rest on the water, and then fly to near by crop fields to feed. There are so many that when they're in the fields, it's a constant roar. Then, they'll decide to move, and when the mass pours into the sky, it's a sight you'll never forget.
Then, there are several hundreds of swans that stop on their way north, and dozens of other ducks.
Google "Freezeout, Montana" and you'll see what I mean. I'll try to dig up some photos of my own, but my normal computer is in the shop.
Thanks for your interest.

Wow, that sounds amazing! It must indeed be a something to remember. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I’m here, is there any way to port a thread we made at POTN here?? Besides grunt edit and copy / paste??
I made a few worthy to put into the astrophotography section

Unfortunately, there’s no way to port anything. You will have to start a new thread here, maybe with the same name if you want to re-create it here, and then populate it with content. I wish there was an automatic way to do what you are asking, but there isn’t.

Thanks for telling us about this. I looked it up at Youtube, it's amazing.

And a belated welcome from me, from across a larger pond.
