It does not happen without your active participation. NameDrop is more like an easier way to establish a AirDrop connection, but you still have to decide what to share and what to receive.

From the last few articles I have se, it looks as if many sort of rushed to judgement before really understanding the issue. I'm guessing the the NameDrop feature is not quite as dangerous as first reported but please, if you have an Apple phone, go off and do some research before using the feature.
