This is the second in my planned series of threads on Southern California birding sites. I also plan on posting details on how to bird these sites in a separate thread which hopefully will be beneficial to visitors to the area.
Playa del Rey is an oceanside community just to the East of LAX and south of where Ballona Creek flows into the Pacific. Key birding spots in Playa del Rey include a lagoon, the beach and the jetty. Also in the area is Ballona Wetlands which deserves its own thread.
Now, on to the photos!
At the lagoon:
Juvenile yellow-crowned night heron (Nyctanassa violacea):
Canon EOS 7D Mark II EF500mm f/4L IS II USM +1.4x III ƒ/5.6 700.0mm 1/400s 800ISO
