420 character PM limit?!

Blocked from sending a PM to someone I lured here, by a message of more than 420 characters.
Is this a reference to 420 laws before marijuana legalization, or just a stupid limit of XenForo
which might be changed?

2 brief paragraphs with an embedded link to an internal thread, and salutation. That's it.

I've not come across such limitations before at other forae.

420 does seem a bit harsh! presumably you can send a second PM?
I'll check with the boffins about any settings we can play with.

Presumably, I can send all the PMs I wish,
but I'd rather not have to send them out in serial chunks.

And have a ton of new smileys been added?
There's a bunch of 'em now showing with a black border around them.

I assumed that took the form of a PM.

Do we know why the limit exists? Seems a bit awkward.
