2025 Fall Pictures

Debbie, last week that area was the best I've ever seen it, from Silverton to Ouray the mountains were like solid gold, absolutely gorgeous.
Yeah, I figured it would be. It was still so much better than anything around home. I had to leave Sept 26 to head for home, had issues to deal with. There were some areas that were awesome. I haven't gone through my photos much yet, there may be better.

One of the things I learned from this trip is that the professionals who post those glorious photos that show the trees in their full glory and plenty of snow on the mountaintops usually take many trips there to finally catch the perfect photos that they put on their sites. From my five or six trips up there in the fall I've never seen but a dusting of snow on the mountaintops and the trees might be beautiful in full change colors in mid-September and the next year in late September or early October. But I'm not complaining, the mountains are still beautiful regardless.

I've gone up there every year but one for the last 12 years, and the dates things change at different parts of the state doesn't vary by much, maybe a few days. This year was supposed to be early due to a dry summer, but about the same. The peak, somewhere in the state, is usually from Sept 23 or so to Oct. 5, that would be central CO on the earlier end of that range to SW CO on the later end. Hasn't been a lot of snow the last several years, unfortunately, does spice up the photos when it happens.

Took the R out again today. Almost didn't. Mostly overcast (which is kind of fine) and on the windy side. Remembered the polarizer this time but using AV on a live screen was a bit tricky.

Color starting to get pretty nice almost no matter where one looks.

Patrick, were those taken on Hwy. 135 into Crested Butte or the Kebler Pass area?

Gothic Road, which is the road that goes straight north out of Mt. Crested Butte. I suppose technically speaking it is 135, if you just stay on 135 it becomes Gothic Road,
